MDP Central

Comm Systems Down

Mortenson Dental Partners, a $200M+ company with nearly 2,000 employees, needed to improve internal communications. Their internal platform had more scar tissue than Frankenstein’s Monster. It was time to start from scratch and reimagine the platform.

Scavenge and Thieve

The first iteration of the intranet, called MDPweb, was a constant victim of too many cooks in the kitchen. A dozen different voices implementing their own “vision” of what the platform needed had broken any intentional user journey or visual hierarchy. The navigation was a jumble of unintelligible icons mixed with text links wrapped in a UI that was far from mobile friendly.

Some of the right content was there, but this was a complete redesign. Strip the corpse and toss it in the river.

What followed was months of content planning, wireframing, crafting the user experience, UI design, prototyping…

Want to browse around the platform and experience it for yourself? Well… you can’t. It’s an intranet, remember?

When we launched the new site, I developed a series of educational walkthrough videos to help bring team members up to speed.

The redesign changed things.

Team members across the country used the new platform to become more engaged within the organization. Practice managers integrated content from MDP Central into their daily huddles. Leaders could speak directly to teams at all levels of the company and everyone could interact on SmileSpot, the on-site social media channel.
